Assignment #11 - Christmas Card

For Assignment #11 you will be designing a christmas-themed character in a simple background/environment. - in color

Aims of this Assignment -
Its important to be able to place your character in some sort of establishing ground or space. You want to show that the design of your character can work well with an environment and isn't dependent on the white of the paper. show that they have a sense of space and give an indication of the style of world they may exist in (what level of stylization, realism etc.). The emphasis here is not environment design, however, rather establishing your character in a space that complements and fits him.  Keep your backgrounds simple, you want to show off your design, not have attention drawn away from it.  Just show enough to give your audience a taste - make them want more!

Things I will be looking for:

1) does the background complement the character? (does it look good or is it distracting?)
2) Handling of the media - You can use whatever media you like - whatever you use though should show your professionalism - emphasis again on simple. I would rather a tastefull simple background rather than a poorly done one.  The last thing you want is a nicely designed character and a poorly designed background. - its one of those things where if its done nicely, you almost don't notice it.
3) Design - for your character and background.  even if its super simple, it should still be designed - not a last-minute thought.  All previous principles discussed in class apply.
4) on-time and present for the critique

Due:  Thursday Nov. 15th.
